😼 Cat-Themed Word Crawl Writing Challenge 😸
You’ve got this script. Great! Also, grab a set of dice and something to write with. As you go through each stage, keep track of your word count for the final mouse tail tally at the end.
Let’s begin.
--------------------------------------------------
STAGE 1: Afternoon’s Arrival 😎
Your eyelids reluctantly flutter open to be greeted by the bright afternoon sun. You’re cozy and sleep holds on tight. But you’re already stirring. Your lungs expand as you draw a deep breath in, letting warm air flow into you. I supposed I should get going, you think to yourself as you stand on your four fuzzy paws. Your back arches into a stretch.
Roll a D-6 to determine how many minutes you spend stretching.
Multiply the result by 2. (Ex: Roll a 4, multiply it by 2, then write for 8 minutes).
Write continuously for that many minutes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAGE 2: Dinner Bowl Disaster 😱
Your food bowl has pebbles in it but not enough. You’re basically starving. The horror! Track down the human, and do something about it.
Roll a D-12. Find the number you rolled below to choose your strategy:
1–3 — The Patented Ankle-Trip:
Weave between the human's legs as fast as you can in a dizzying display designed to mesmerize and excite.
Write a quick 150-word dash before they trip over you.
4–6 — The Haunting Caterwaul:
Determine the location of the house with the best acoustics — hallways and showers work great. Sit in the aforementioned location and let loose your unearthly utterance.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and write as fast as you can.
7–9 — The Polite Bread-Loaf with Disapproving Stare:
Locate the human. Find an appropriate location on or near them. Tuck your limbs and tail in tight, then stare directly into their soul.
Write for 15 minutes at a leisurely pace.
10-12 — The Lightning Strike:
With the strength of a thousand suns, bolt to another location in the house. Make your feet thunder across the floor. Spin around and run again. Pivot. Sprint again and again. Change directions. Mix it up. Have fun. Keep them guessing as you hurl yourself at full speed down halls, through rooms, over tables.Write 300 words
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAGE 3: Paw-trol 🚔
The human has left. On the table, something glows, a rectangle. You approach cautiously. Small squares with squiggles and angles lay flat in front of the light source. Laptop. With effort, the word comes to you slowly. It hums and radiates warmth. You step onto the laptop, look directly at the screen. It’s right in your face. Then in the corner of your vision, something shifts. Whirling around, you find shadows on the wall directly behind you. You move, and so do they. Creepy.
Roll a D-8 to determine your paw-trol path:
If you roll an odd number —
Attack the Apparition!!! What the… Your eyes are sharp, divine! You see things the human doesn’t. What’s more, this is your house. Wall demons beware! You attack the phantoms!
Sprint for 15 minutes as you battle them.
If you roll an even number —
Keyboard Warmth: You lazily turn back to the device. The human loves it. They’re always looking at it, touching it. Hmm, you murmur to yourself. Then, you step directly onto the glowing keys. There are beeps. How satisfying. Little squiggles like the ones on the squares appear on the screen. Fun! You stretch and roll, wondering what the squiggles “Work Email” mean. You keep rolling.
Write the 400 words.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAGE 4: Threat Level — Red… Dot of Doom 🚨
Disaster strikes! Despite your minutes of paw-trol and hours of careful napping, the elusive Red Dot has reappeared. It mocks you. You must hunt.
Roll a D-10 to see how the hunt goes:
If you roll a 1 or a prime number [1, 2, 3, 5, 7] —
The Failed Pounce: You missed it, and now you look silly. To recover your dignity, you must immediately lick your back leg and pretend it was nothing. Still, the embarrassment burns inside you. Side eye the menace.
Set a timer for 12 minutes and write.
If you roll a 0 or a composite number [0, 4, 6, 8] —
Apex Predator:You trapped it under your paw! Wait, you lifted your paw and it's gone. What devilry is this?! Coil your muscles tight and pounce!
Set a timer for 8 minutes and write as fast as you can.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAGE 5: The Evening Routine 🪷🧘
It is 10:00 PM. The house is completely dark and quiet. Finally, you get some you time. But how will you use it?
Roll a D-20 to determine your final chaotic energy levels.
If you roll an odd number, that’s divisible by 3:
You decide to relax by grooming yourself in the middle of the living room.
Write 200 words at your own pace.
If you roll an odd number that isn't divisible by three:
Zoomies strike. You race around the house at top speed.
Write as many words as you can in 15 minutes.
If you roll an even number that's divisible by 3:
Heist time has arrived. Using your stealthiest moves you leap onto the counter and go after some treats or maybe human food if something strikes your fancy.
Write for 12 minutes.
If your roll is even but isn't divisible by 3:
Fate has struck. You also jumped onto the counter, but you knocked over a glass. It shattered. Hazardous shards are everywhere, and worse, the deafening roar of it woke the human. Run for the nearest fuzzy nest and pretend you were asleep.
Write 350 words as fast as you can.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
🐭🎊 The Final Mouse Tail Tally 🎊🐭
Once you’ve finished, look at your final word count for the session:
Under 1,500 words: You spent most of the day asleep. A solid, highly successful cat day.
1,500-3,000 words: You caught the Red Dot of productivity. The human notices your resolve and gives you crunchy treats. Victory tastes sweet or maybe savory with a hint of fish.
3,000+ words: You are King Catnip! Loose your claws and go scratch something you aren’t supposed to. Then, grab yourself a tastefully sized dish of cream. Lap that sucker up while silently praising yourself, King Catnip, in your head. Imagine a lavish coronation ceremony where the human caters to your every whim. After all, you deserve it!
