In 2020, during the global lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic, I read a lot -- book after book, series after series. I couldn't get enough. Almost like I was a kid again, reading provided an important escape from reality. And it was during that time that one series in particular did a few strange things in my brain.
First, I hated the ending. Ok. Maybe hate is a strong word, but I wasn't satisfied. The last chapters were rushed, and major parts of the main character's life felt unresolved. So, naturally, I read the entire series again, searching for details I'd missed so it would make more sense, but I couldn't find them.

And that's when the trouble started. I, like any normal human, decided to spend the next few months writing my own fan fiction ending. It's a glorious twenty-seven-page-long document that I dubbed an ending expansion.
But of course, I wasn't done there. The series stuck with me for other reasons, too. It had interesting questions that I'd never heard posited, and they decided to make a nest in my brain and live rent-free. They rattled around so long that I started building them their own expansion packs, and my writing hobby was born.
What was the series? What were the questions?
Maybe one day I'll confess it all, but for now, I'll keep those answers and my fanfic to myself.
Until next time, I hope you have a halfway decent day, and I'll talk to you again soon.
